STATEMENT of the Council of Trade Union Association of Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions (BKDP)
Minsk, 21 December 2010 The Council of Trade Union Association of Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions expresses its deep concern about events that have taken place during and after the Presidential elections on December 19-20 in Minsk. We are indignant at massacre and reprisals, committed by security forces at the Independence Square in Minsk on 19 and 20 December against many of the participants of the rally which was attended by dozens of thousands of people. The motives causing brutal beatings and violence against human beings can neither be explained nor excused. |

The BKDP Council made a statement in connection with deaths of workers, who perished in a blast occurred at “Pinskdrev” Furniture Company on October 25. The nationwide tragedy has happened but the regime is keeping speechless silence. |

(http://en.maquilasolidarity.org/node/954) On August 16, 2010, thugs entered a plant owned by Johnson Controls in Puebla, Mexico, and assaulted them, according to reports, "with sticks and stones, leaving many injured." Two of the members of the Executive Committee of the newly formed union at the plant, Cándido Barreucos and Vigilio Melendez, were beaten in a company office and forced to sign letters of resignation, reportedly at gunpoint. They are currently in a hospital with severe injuries. |
